The Premiere

Where It All Began: The Broward Center

In summer 2026, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts hosted the inaugural SHINE intensive, bringing together seventeen young theatre-makers to create something entirely their own.

Six days later, they took the stage with The Mystery of Mockingbird Manor, an original musical filled with their characters, their story, and their songs, performed for an audience of family and friends.

What began as a blank page became a world premiere. And an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

The SHINE Experience

Everyone has a story worth telling.

On day one, there’s no script. No songs. Just a room full of young imaginations and a blank page.

Six days later? A world premiere.

Together, our young theatre-makers dream up characters, build a story, write original songs, and bring their very own musical to life onstage, in front of family and friends.

No prior experience necessary. Just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to jump in.

Brian will be there every step of the way, guiding the creative process, exploring their ideas at the piano, and helping them discover something pretty extraordinary: the power of their own imagination and what they can create together.

And yes, there will be plenty of laughter along the way.

Meet The Creator

Brian Feinstein.

After more than 25 years of working with young artists, he created SHINE around one simple idea: give people the tools, the freedom, and the confidence to trust their own creative voices. Then watch what happens when their imaginations take center stage.

What arts leaders say

The Reviews Are In!

The SHINE Musical Theater Writing Experience was an innovative addition to Broward Center’s arts education programming. By learning the fundamentals of songwriting, playwriting, and musical theater performance, students grew as artists and more importantly collaborators. The program created a space where student voices were celebrated, ideas were valued, and confidence flourished!

What is the financial model?

SHINE is customized for each host organization, with pricing based on program size, location, and production needs. Host organizations may offset program costs through registration, ticket sales, and local sponsorships. We’ll explore the options together.

What kind of space do we need?

A rehearsal space large enough for the ensemble to move, create, and rehearse comfortably, plus a stage or suitable performance space for the final presentation.

Does Brian travel?

Do we need a piano?

Yes. An acoustic piano or full-size keyboard is an essential part of the SHINE creative process, allowing students to explore their musical ideas throughout the week.

How is the program marketed?

FeinLine provides promotional guidance, copy, and available creative assets to support your outreach. Your organization manages local promotion, registration, and ticketing.

Your venue. Your students. One original musical. Six days.
